The evaluation system X-KIT-3 provides up to three slots for MAX modules (X-Bus^® module). Furthermore, the X-KIT-3 provides a touch screen display, two PCMCIA slots that are also usable via an adapter for CompactFlash cards.
The X-KIT-3 can be used to start the software development for a new product immediately without waiting for the layout and production of a hardware prototype.
The carrier system X-KIT-3 can be adapted by the user to almost all data acquisition, control, and communication applications by using various MAX modules. The range of available I/O modules varies from several analogue and digital I/Os with process levels, serial communication interfaces, e.g. with eight RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 channels, or PROFIBUS or CAN. In addition, I/O modules with counters, relay outputs and programmable logic components such as FPGAs are also available.
One slot is reserved for a CPU module to connect a host PC to the X-KiT-3. By this, all interfaces of the board can be accessedvia Ethernet:

• the on-board colour LC display with touch screen interface
• 2 PCMCIA slots
• RS-232 interface
• Ethernet interface (RJ45)
• iRDA interface
• connection for an additional external display
• on-board battery and speaker

The other two slots can be used for all available X-Bus® modules. After the software development on the X-KIT-3 has been finished, it is possible to use the same modules on any other carrier board or for the final target hardware system. No software changes are required.

All I/O signals from the X-Bus^® modules are connected to header connectors.
